Factions I have no experience with - and hence which might make for a more fun game all round - include Pontos and the Bosphoran Kingdom, both of which are likely to be challenging.Īrche Seleukeia - Persian-Hellenic successor empire. I had a great Baktria campaign in EB1 (Greek horse archers rock!) and have just finished a Ptolemaioi campaign in R2:TW (which seems to have taken note of a lot of what the EB team did). I've played a bit of Macedon already, so I know what to expect from most of the western Greeks. Archers are less well represented, although this isn't always the case. These factions tend to have excellent defensive heavy infantry in the shape of phalanxes and hoplites, but also get good cavalry options. More Greeks than you can shake a sarissa at. More info on the factions can be found here. Unless people suggest otherwise, I'll be playing on Very Hard campaign difficulty with Medium difficulty battles. Ideally I'd like to play something I've not tried before, but also something that gets into the action fairly quickly. I'm not sure if there's a way of renaming family members after RPGNetters in-game, but if not I can always keep a list elsewhere.Īssuming people are interested, here's a list of the game's factions, divided roughly by geography or culture as the mood takes me. The idea would be that this or a successor thread would act as the senate/royal council/tribal elders of whatever faction we end up as, with the added possibility of individual people volunteering to be generals and governors. With that established, and inspired by previous and current VGO Let's Plays, such as Aethyron's awesome one for CKII: After the End, I wondered if anyone here would be interested in participating a community-directed playthrough of EB2. I've played about 40-50 turns into a test game as Makedon and it seems fairly stable that is, I've had two CtDs in that time with little progress lost. I'm running the 2.2g patch, which was released earlier this month. If you've got an interest in ancient military history and have some time to kill, I'd recommend checking out the old EB website, especially the faction list and unit rosters.Įuropa Barbarorum 2 is the (as yet partial) culmination of a years-long project to convert EB to a newer engine. While the conversion to EB meant the loss of flaming pigs, Roman ninjas and time-travelling Egyptians, this was more than made up for by the addition of new factions and much more in-depth systems for building and unit recruitment. The original EB mod came about because the creators found R:TW's treatment of history to be somewhat underwhelming. For the uninitiated, EB2 is a total conversion mod for M2:TW Kingdoms, which turns the clock back to 272BCE and covers Europe, north Africa, the western steppe and the fringes of India. The current Total War thread got me thinking about how it was time to give the new version of Europa Barbarorum II a proper go.
